Torrential rain and widespread flooding across the West Country in early February may have cancelled the scheduled fixtures on the Harrodian rugby tour to Bath, but they certainly did not dampen the spirits of the 24 boys from the 14s, 15s and Sixth Form who made the trip.

With several pitches left waterlogged, the focus shifted to intensive training sessions and practice games. The squad worked closely with Bath Academy coaches, making the most of every opportunity to develop their skills despite the challenging conditions.

A major highlight of the tour was an inspiring talk from Tom Dunn, above, who has spent around 17 years at Bath, progressing through the academy before making his senior debut in 2012. A long-serving hooker for the club, he has also represented England, earning three international caps in 2020 and he shared valuable insights into professional rugby, dedication and club culture.

Off the pitch, the group enjoyed a walking tour of the historic city of Bath, including a visit to the famous Roman Baths, soaking up the city’s rich heritage. The sporting itinerary also featured some highly competitive and thoroughly enjoyable padel matches in Bristol on both the outward and return journeys.

Sport teacher and1st XV rugby coach Alastair Lydon, who organised and led the trip, was supported by Tim Seaton and Luke Cuff-Burnett. He praised the group’s attitude throughout:

Rugby tours are about helping our players understand rugby skills and culture, but they also provide valuable life lessons along the way. This was a tour that put the team’s patience, resilience and togetherness to the test and they all came through with flying colours.

This year's rugby tour was a defined by character, camaraderie and commitment (hopefully not the wet weather!), so a huge well done to all involved!
