Prep Physical Education

Our 11s (Year 7) pupils have one Physical Education (PE) lesson a week but are able to choose a second as part of their options programme.

Pupils who choose to study the non-Latin route and decide to take an extra lesson in PE will have the opportunity to consolidate and extend their skills in the main team sports that they currently specialise in throughout the school year such as netball, football, hockey, rugby, rounders and cricket. There will also be greater opportunities to develop skills in athletics, tennis and swimming and the chance to increase fitness levels and gain a wider appreciation of different methods of training, fitness testing and leadership skills. There will also be exciting opportunities to try other sports and team building activities to stimulate interest and challenge pupils to develop new skills and knowledge. The pupils will participate in sessions to learn the fundamentals of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. They will also have the opportunity to learn personal survival skills in the school swimming pool. There is flexibility in the planned curriculum to offer the pupils a degree of ownership over their activities and it is perfect for those pupils who want to increase their sports contact time, learn new skills and facilitate the achievement of their sporting potential.

Extracurricular activities and fixture opportunities

Our extensive extracurricular program includes before-school, lunchtime and after-school clubs which offer greater breadth of activity and longer participation time. The main sports listed above have training clubs available to pupils developing their skills and to those who are already representing school teams. Other on-site activities include karate, fencing and Sports Leadership. We are also able to recommend a number of other local sporting clubs and organisations for off-site sports such as golf and squash. For more information please download our Club Links list below.  A full calendar of competitive fixtures is also available to view on our own dedicated sports website. In addition to this, we also regularly organise sports tours for teams taking part in our main representative sports.
