Psychiatrists Dr Nick Prior and Dr Jonathan Iliff of Minderful visited Harrodian on 28th June to speak at our training workshop for existing Harrodian mentors ( Lower Sixth students) and prospective ones (15s). Mentoring Minderful is an app and consultancy devoted to championing and supporting mental wellness. In the first three hours of the day, Nick and Jonathan provided an eye-opening and thought-provoking introduction to ways in which we can look after our minds.
After that, the 15 Senior Mentors provided practical training to the incoming ones, setting out the practical skills that mentors need to establish and develop successful relationships with their mentees
Harrodian’s mentoring scheme twins trained Sixth Formers with selected pupils from Lower Prep and younger Senior year groups for regular private chats about issues such as self-confidence, organisation or friendships. It has grown steadily into an integral part of Harrodian’s pastoral and leadership programmes since it was set up in 2012. At the last count, over 120 Harrodians aged from 7-15 were meeting for weekly sessions with their personal Mentors.
