Nude (1917) (Private Collection) Amedeo Modigliani

Who? Modigliani

Where? Tate Modern

When? Until 2nd April 2018

It is hard to believe that this tormented soul (known as a ‘bad-boy bohemian’ - Amedeo Modigliani was dead by 35) could produce images of such serenity and grace. Tate Modern’s retrospective of his work focuses primarily on his nudes (12 in total) and is the largest and most comprehensive British survey of the artist to date (a number of his sculptures are also included). Identifiable through elongated forms and lively, sinuous lines, Modigliani’s lithe nude figures are at once intoxicating and disturbing in their candid sensuality.

Don’t miss the virtual reality experience of Modigliani’s studio from 1919. It provides a unique sensory insight into the life and working conditions of this avant-garde genius (booking is essential as this is a popular part of the exhibition)
