March Highlights

Harrodian v Buckswood

U15%20Surrey%20smaller.jpgMarch has been a hugely encouraging month for Harrodian teams on all sporting fronts.

On the 6th, our under 15s Netball team made history, becoming the first Harrodian  Senior team to ever reach Surrey Finals Day, Britain’s most competitive netballing county. The team performed superbly on the day – winning one match, drawing one and losing three very narrowly – and finishing eighth of 12 teams. ‘Coming eighth in Surrey is a great achievement and a real step forward for Harrodian,’ says team coach, Ms McNaught. ‘The girls were fantastic. Every match was extremely physical and tactical, but the girls could not have played better.’

Cross Country has been going well too. Rosalie from the 14s will represent Middlesex at the ESAA National Cross Country Championships in Kent, this weekend. And, despite mud and a tricky course, Rosalie’s Prep counterparts – (including Saskia, Cameron and Farah pictured here) – performed admirably at Epsom’s annual cross country competition last week.

This week’s undoubted sporting highlight came on Thursday afternoon when our Under 16s Football team took on Buckswood School Sussex in an ISFA Small Schools Semi Final in a match which attracted hundreds of enthusiastic spectators of all ages. After they scored in the opening minute Buckswood always had the edge but Harrodian’s tight knit team put up a tremendous battle, first equalising at 1-1, then battling back from a 3-1 half-time deficit to score a tremendous second. With several chances in the closing minutes, Harrodian were pressing for a late equaliser before Buckswood broke away to make it 4-2.

Nonetheless, the Under 16s can be proud both for making it to the semi-final of this important competition and for a performance that was full of skill and courage.
