Pre Prep Blog: Literacy Week

Pre-Prep in lion costume for literacy week

It is hard to know where to begin this week, as there has been so much going on in Pre-Prep.

Literacy Week has offered the children opportunities to explore all aspects of Literacy including reading, speaking and listening, writing and spelling. We have had a very strong focus on instruction writing  and the children created some amazing board games at home, many of which were a real family affair.

IMG_5849.JPGThe children have really enjoyed playing the games and the range and standard of the games was quite exceptional.  The children also completed an edible instruction writing challenge for the Headmaster. They really enjoyed creating, and eating, their designs, and were able to provide comprehensive instructions for the Headmaster on how to make his own creations.

IMG_9291.JPGLiteracy Week really focuses us all on the importance of developing an early love of language and reading. Visiting authors and drama workshops enthused and inspired the children and this will, we hope, really encourage them on their journey.

This week I have attached links to www.schoolreadinglist.co.uk and to www.lovereading4kids.co.uk which are both suggested reading lists for young children. The lists are neither entire or exact, but offer great suggestions for books your children may enjoy.
