Learning is always at the heart of life in Pre-Prep, but this half term has provided some particularly lovely opportunities to capture and celebrate a few of those moments. Here is a snapshot of some of the highlights from across the department.
Reception enjoyed a fantastic Space Day as part of their topic this half term. The children came to school dressed up and took part in a range of space-themed activities, including making aliens, galaxy paintings, rocket ships and space passports. A highlight of the day was the Space Dome, an immersive experience which transported the children into space while introducing them to key facts through real-life visuals.

As part of their History topic, PP1 have been learning about toys from the past. The children took part in an engaging workshop with Thomas the Toymaker from Crew Productions, who brought a wonderful selection of vintage toys into the classroom. They explored how toys have changed over time, comparing those from the past with those they play with today, and learning about materials, construction and movement. The children enjoyed hands-on exploration and play, trying out a range of traditional toys including hoop and stick, spinning tops, yo-yos, push and pull toys, string toys and even a shadow puppet show, bringing their learning to life in a memorable way.

PP2 enjoyed their annual trip to the Wallace Collection, linking their learning in History and Art. During the visit, the children explored the galleries and discovered one of the most famous collections of armour, learning about how it was made and used. They also had the opportunity to handle pieces, which helped bring their learning to life and made the experience especially memorable.
In PP1 and PP2 pupils enjoyed a theatrical reading of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs in French, bringing these familiar stories to life in a new and engaging way. PP3 also took part in a French illustrator workshop as part of the South Kensington Kids Festival, organised by the French Institute, where they welcomed author and illustrator Lucie Brunellière and created their own drawings of paper flowers but collages too, inspired by her book Un beau bouquet. Using coloured paper, scissors and glue, children cut and assembled their own bouquet of dahlias, peonies and roses to take home.

Across Pre-Prep, Mrs Walker introduced a new initiative called Pillar Champions. This half term the focus was Curiosity, and eight children were recognised for their curiosity, enthusiasm and desire to learn. They celebrated with a special hot chocolate and cookies with Mr Hooke and Mrs Walker.

On the final day of term, all of Pre-Prep took part in the annual Easter Bonnet Parade, showcasing a wide range of creative hats, caps and bonnets made at home. The term ended with an Easter bake sale organised by the Easter Bunny, raising funds for Trinity Hospice and ADHD Embrace. (Photos to follow).
